STERLING VA: (Rocktown Now) –  Drivers across portions of Virginia and eastern West Virginia are facing dangerous travel conditions this morning as light snow and frigid temperatures combine to create slick roads and icy sidewalks. Officials warn that the morning commute could be treacherous.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for much of central, northern, and western Virginia, as well as parts of eastern West Virginia. The advisory remains in effect until 4 p.m. EST Friday.
Forecasters say up to two inches of additional snow could accumulate throughout the day. With temperatures well below freezing, untreated roads are expected to remain icy, increasing the risk of accidents.
Impacted Areas: Augusta, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Page, Warren, Nelson, Albemarle, Greene, Madison, Rappahannock, Orange, Culpeper, Spotsylvania counties in Virginia, along with Highland, Hardy, and Pendleton counties in West Virginia.
Travel Impact: Motorists are urged to slow down and allow extra time for travel. Pedestrians should also use caution on slick sidewalks.
