BRIDGEWATER, Va. (BC Athletics) – Bridgewater baseball broke out to a dominant offensive surge to best Mary Baldwin, 18-1, at home Tuesday.

The Bridgewater College Eagles (BC) have improved to 13-2 overall this season as a recent No. 14 nationally ranked program in the D3baseball.com top-25 national poll, and Mary Baldwin (MBU) has dropped to 2-9 on the season.

How It Happened
• Although MBU began the scoring with its lone run of the day, BC got the offensive rhythm going in a hurry, capitalizing off fielding miscues and piling on an offensive flow. The Eagles quickly answered to mark the first run and to even the score as Jake Harris executed a sac fly to score Chandler Valbak. Soon after, Zack Chadwell laced a double to clear the bases and knock three runs in for a surging 4-1 advantage.
• The Eagles continued their active hitting in the third inning as Bryce Suters scored in Isaac Sumpter in a hustled infield hit. Then, BC broke open the score with a dominant 10-run inning in the fifth. Suters came up again to tally a two-run double in the left-center gap and brought home Valbak and Trent Holland on the play. After a sac fly by Nick Stavros, bases were loaded. Chadwell and Holland worked walks to score two more runs.
• At 10-1, the Eagles pressed on the gas more in the fifth inning as Sumpter knocked in a run from a fielding error. More action occurred around the bases. Chandler Valbak smacked a two-run double, Suters shot a two-run single to left, Adam Bartley ripped his first RBI of the season with a single, and Austin Crew collected his first hit of the season with two RBIs. BC was in full control at 18-1.
• The Eagles shut down on the mound with Lucas Cash working to six innings and was effectively relieved by Chad Martin for the run rule after seven innings.

Game Notes
• Bryce Suters shined in the dominant win with five RBIs, three hits, and three scored runs.
• Zack Chadwell was active at the plate scoring four RBIs for a total of 23 on the season.
• Lucas Cash posted a strong performance on the mound for his third win of the season and a career high in strikeouts at Bridgewater with 10 K’s.
• The BC batting lineup only struck out twice and worked seven walks to Mary Baldwin’s 12 strikeouts and one walk, respectively.

The Eagles are back in action on Saturday, March 14 in a doubleheader against Wilson beginning at 12 p.m. at home.
