Mandatory Water Restrictions Take Effect in Woodstock

WOODSTOCK VA: (Rocktown Now) – Mandatory water restrictions went into effect Friday in the Town of Woodstock as drought conditions continue across the Shenandoah Valley, town officials announced.

The restrictions, enacted in accordance with Town Code requirements, apply to all nonessential water use. Nonessential uses are defined as activities not required for business operations or basic human hygiene.

Although water demand typically declines during this time of year, town officials are encouraging residents to go beyond the mandatory restrictions by adopting voluntary water conservation measures at home. Suggested actions include taking shorter showers, turning off faucets while shaving or brushing teeth, running dishwashers only when fully loaded, and washing full loads of laundry.

Town officials say these simple steps, when practiced collectively, can significantly reduce strain on the municipal water system.

Residents can find additional water-saving tips through the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s WaterSense program at www.epa.gov/watersense/start-saving.

The water restrictions are mandatory, and violations may result in penalties under Town Code Sections 82‑70 and 82‑71.

More information is available on the Town of Woodstock’s website at www.woodstockva.gov, in person at the Woodstock Town Office, located at 135 N. Main Street, or by calling 540‑459‑3621. The town office is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Thursday.
