HARRISONBURG, Va. (JMU Athletics) – A first-half score from sophomore Ginny Lackey was all James Madison women’s soccer needed to put away the Maryland Terrapins, 1-0, at Sentara Park on Thursday night.
The Dukes advance to 4-1-2 on the year, while the Terps slide to 4-3. Lackey logged JMU’s only goal of the night, receiving an assist from senior Jordan Yang and junior Ellie Farrell. Freshman Audrey Orrock contributed offensively as well, firing off three shots.
Lili White received her second career start in the goal, playing all 90 minutes and securing her first collegiate shutout. She added one save.

How it Happened
• The Dukes applied pressure early, attempting a shot and earning two corners in the first 18 minutes of play.
• Following a through pass from Farrell, Yang located Lackey in the six-yard box, who snuck a shot past the keeper to hand JMU the lead in the 23rd minute, 1-0.
• The James Madison defense was airtight, allowing the Terps to take only one shot in each half.
• The JMU offense picked up the pace in the final 15 minutes of play, sending five shots and taking five corners, but was unable to extend its advantage.

• The victory is the JMU’s first over a Big Ten opponent since defeating Maryland, 3-0, on Aug. 19, 2018.
• Thursday’s win marks the first time James Madison has had multiple victories over autonomy opponents in the same season since 2008, defeating Syracuse and Penn State
• This match marks the second time this season that Maryland has been held to two shots or fewer against a Sun Belt opponent (ODU).
