MORGANTOWN WV: (JMU Athletics – James Madison women’s basketball outscored Kentucky 46-39 over the final three quarters, however the Wildcats’ 32-10 performance in the opening frame propelled UK to a 71-56 victory over the Dukes in the NCAA First Round inside Hope Coliseum on Saturday afternoon.

The Dukes (26-9) shot 38.2% (13-of-34) from the floor and committed just five turnovers in the second half, while limiting the Wildcats (24-10) to 32.1% (9-of-28) from the field and 23.1% (3-of-13) from three-point range over the final 20 minutes.

Peyton McDaniel wrapped up her historic career with 15 points, seven rebounds, and three assists. Freshman Grace McDonough posted nine points and six rebounds in her first NCAA Tournament appearance. Zakiya Stephenson finished with six points and three steals in the loss.

For Kentucky, Tonie Morgan led the way with 18 points, seven boards, and a game-high seven assists. Clara Strack produced a double-double of 14 rebounds and 10 points, while Amelia Haslett went 4-for-13 (.308) from behind the arc for 14 points. Jordan Obi chipped in with 12 points and five boards off the bench.
