HARRISONBURG, Va. (JMU Athletics) – James Madison men’s soccer (7-6-4, 4-2-3 SBC) surrendered a goal in each half and dropped the regular season finale, 2-0, to No. 9 West Virginia at Sentara Park on Tuesday evening.

JMU was surpassed by West Virginia in shots, 15-to-7, shots on goal, 6-to-3, and corner kicks 4-to-3. Six Dukes accounted for JMU’s offensive attack as Manuel Lolas led the group with two shots, one of which landed on target.

Defensively, Erik Jaspers made four saves while conceding two goals. On the other side, WVU notched their fifth straight shutout as Toby Mawer accounted for three saves in goal.

Quoting Head Coach Paul Zazenski
“Anytime you finish the regular season with a chance to win the league then you have done a lot to be proud of,” Zazenski said. “WVU is a very good side and have been playing very well lately. Our group has competed all year long and just didn’t get it done on the night. A big thank you to the seniors for their hard work and dedication to our program!”

How It Happened
• West Virginia jumped on JMU in the early going when Pablo Pozos placed the ball off the right post and into the back of the net, putting the Mountaineers up 1-0 in the 6th minute.
• JMU nearly equalized as Dylan Randazzo rocketed a shot towards at the center of the frame with Mawer collecting his first save in the process.
• In the 60th minute, Håkon Rake skied a potential game-tying shot above the crossbar, leading to a Mountaineers goal kick.
• West Virginia doubled the lead in the 64th minute when Civan de Jesus Ferreira struck a shot off his head into the lower right corner.

Game Notes
• With the loss, JMU falls to the four seed in the SBC standings with 15 points to close out the regular season campaign.
• James Madison suffers just its second home loss of the season and first since a 1-0 defeat to Rider on Aug. 20. JMU went 6-2-2 at Sentara Park in 2026.
• The Dukes’ seven shots and three shots on goal were both the second lowest marks of the 2026 season respectively.

Up Next
James Madison will head into the SBC Tournament as the four seed, taking on fifth-seeded Coastal Carolina on Nov. 8 in Morgantown, W. Va.
