JMU Baseball gets shutout at home by Marshall, 9-0

HARRISONBURG, Va. (JMU Athletics) – Marshall scored a run in every inning but two, as James Madison baseball fell, 9-0, on Saturday afternoon at Veterans Memorial Park in Sun Belt Conference play.

The Dukes’ record dropped to 19-26 (9-14 Sun Belt), while the Thundering Herd improved to 21-25 (11-12 Sun Belt).

At the plate, sophomore Jack Anderson and freshman Ryan Gocio each went 2-for-3 to lead the team.

How It Happened
First Inning
The Herd jumped on the board first, scoring a run on a single into center field.

Second Inning
Jack Smith homered out of the nine-hole spot in the lineup to give MU a 2-0 lead.

Third Inning
Marshall doubled the score with a run scoring on a fielder’s choice and a single from Smith to make it 4-0.

Fourth Inning
A sacrifice fly allowed the Herd to increase their lead to five.

Fifth Inning
With two outs, a wide throw to first allowed MU to bring home a run for a 6-0 lead.

Seventh Inning
Mason Onate hit a solo homer to add a run to the Herd lead.

Eighth Inning
Tyler Kamerer’s fourth hit of the game and a sacrifice fly made it a 9-0 score for MU.

Game Notes
• Reece Moody’s 18-game reached base streak was snapped, the longest by a Duke this season.
• Griffin Madden tossed a career-long 3.0 innings.

The series finale between the Dukes and the Herd is scheduled for 1 p.m. tomorrow, May 3 at Veterans Memorial Park.
