James Madison Baseball falls at George Mason, 7-4, for eighth straight loss

FAIRFAX, Va. (JMU Athletics) – James Madison baseball was taken down by George Mason after the Patriots scored five runs in the fifth inning to earn a Tuesday afternoon win, 7-4, at Spuhler Field.

The Dukes fell to 16-23 after their eighth consecutive lost, while the Patriots evened their record to 19-19.

Senior Wyatt Campbell and junior Kyle Langley led the way for JMU at the plate. Campbell fell a triple shy of the cycle as he went 3-for-4 with a run scored and three RBI. The three hits tie a season high, while the three RBI is a season high and ties his career high. Langley tied his career high in hits with a 3-for-5 performance, the third straight game he has recorded three hits.

How It Happened
Second Inning
Senior Wyatt Campbell got JMU on the board, knocking a single through the right side of the infield to score sophomore Jack Anderson.

Third Inning
The Dukes added a run on an RBI groundout from senior Jack Guerrero to take a 2-0 lead.

Fourth Inning
After freshman Ryan Gocio led the inning off with a walk, Campbell doubled the JMU lead with his sixth homer of the season.

Mason took a run back, making it 4-1 on a double from Jake Butler.

Fifth Inning
GMU used five base hits to score five runs, taking the lead on a two-run single before another single made it 6-4 for the hosts.

Sixth Inning
The Patriots added a run on a single to make the score 7-4.

Game Notes
• With four strikeouts in the game, Patrick Bauer eclipsed 300 career strikeouts. He currently sits at 302.

Up Next
The Dukes remain on the road as they travel to ULM for a three-game set beginning on Friday, April 24. First pitch for the opener is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (6 p.m. CT).
