James Madison Softball takes down Marshall, 5-3, to even series

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (JMU Athletics) – James Madison softball evened the series on Friday evening with a 5-3 victory over Marshall at Dot Hicks Field.

The win moves the Dukes to 26-23 overall and 12-11 in conference play as they force a decisive game three on Saturday against the Herd (37-15, 17-6 Sun Belt).

Lewis finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI, while LeGrand went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI. List added two RBI in the victory, and Cali Legzdin scored once for JMU.

How It Happened:

• Payton List grounded out to bring home the first run before Emily LeGrand doubled to left field to plate Kendra Lewis bringing the score to an early 2-0 lead.
• Marshall answered in the fourth with a two-run homer from Paige Simpson to tie the game, but JMU responded immediately in the fifth.
• Kendra Lewis started the rally with an RBI double before Payton List drove in a run with a single up the middle.
• Emily LeGrand followed with her second RBI double of the night to push the Dukes back in front.
• Marshall added one run in the bottom of the fifth, but the Dukes held on the rest of the way to secure the series-tying win.

The Dukes and Herd will meet in the rubber match of the series on Saturday at 12 p.m.
