SALEM, Va. (EMU Athletics) – The Royals women’s soccer team headed south on Wednesday to Salem, for an ODAC matchup against Roanoke.

The Maroons used three goals in the first half, and held EMU to just one second half goal, en route to a 4-1 win.

Records: EMU 3-7-1, 1-3-0 ODAC | Roanoke 6-6-1, 3-2-0 ODAC

Highlights
• The Maroons offense came out blazing in the first half, peppering the Royals keeper, Katie Parks, with 11 shots on goal. Parks came up with eight saves, but Roanoke was able to find pay dirt three times: in the eighth minute, the 15th minute and the 19th minute, for a 3-0 lead. Leah Beachy had EMU’s only shot on goal in the first half, which came in the 32nd minute and was saved by the RC keeper.
• In the second half, EMU got on the board just nine minutes into the frame. After a Roanoke foul, the Royals free kick by Michelle Thompson bounced off the foot of Esme Cardoso directly to a waiting Beachy. Beachy then launched a shot from about 30 yards out that flew over the keeper’s fingers and into the top right corner of the goal, for her team-leading fifth goal of the season.
• CJ Jefferson, who replaced Parks in goal in the second half, gave up one goal, which came in the 69th minute, while picking up six saves. Unfortunately for the Royals, they would only pick up two more shots on goal in the half: one from Alexandria Diana and one from Bridget Hay, both of which were saved to keep EMU at one.
Statistical Leaders
Goals: Beachy (1)
Saves: Parks (8), Jefferson (6)
