GREENSBORO, NC (EMU Athletics) – The EMU Men’s Basketball team was back in action on Wednesday, making the trip to the Tarheel State for a showdown with Guilford.

With things tied at 32 with 3:21 left in the first half, the Quakers went on a 16-0 run, which spanned the end of the first half and the first minute of the second half, to pull ahead and pick up an 89-68 win.

Highlights

First Half
Isaiah Carr gave the Royals an early 2-0 lead with the first basket of the game. Guilford then went on an 8-0 run before threes from Carr and Aaron Brooks, tied things at eight apiece. The teams traded points until a 4-0 run, including two points each from Brooks and BJ Nkruman, gave EMU their first lead of the game, 15-12. Later in the half, EMU was able to take their largest lead of the game, 20-15, after back-to-back buckets from Donovan Arnason and Carr. With just over six minutes left, and GC leading by five, EMU scored eight of the next 11 points, highlighted by three points each from Mari Foxx and Hezekiah Brown. But in the final 2:40, Guilford was perfect from the field en route to a 10-0 run and a 42-32 halftime lead.

Second Half
Out of the break, after the Quakers had extended their lead to 16, Jazen Walker broke the Guilford run, giving EMU their first points of the half. Brooks followed that up with a layup but GC answered with eight straight, pushing their lead to 20. Midway through the half, with Guilford leading by 26, the Royals tried to rally, going on an 8-0 tilt with four points from Arnason and two apiece from Brown and Edixon Blanco. Unfortunately for the Royals, Guilford would continue to hold the lead, finishing the game on an 18-15 lead to secure the win.
