NEW ORLEANS (JMU Athletics) – James Madison quarterback Alonza Barnett III has been added to the watch list for the 2025 Manning Award, as announced by the Manning Award and the Allstate Sugar Bowl®.

This is the third time a JMU quarterback has been recognized on the watch list for the Manning Award, as Barnett joins former teammates Todd Centeio (2022) and Jordan McCloud (2023).

Through seven starts this season, Barnett has completed 111-of-181 attempts for 1,252 passing yards and nine touchdowns with just two interceptions. He’s also rushed for 266 yards and a team-best nine rushing scores to combine for 1,518 yards of total offense and 18 total touchdowns.

Nationally, Barnett enters the week ranking eighth in the FBS in rushing touchdowns, 13th in total touchdowns and 19th in point responsibility per game (15.4).

The Manning Award was created in 2004 in honor of the college football accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning. It’s the only college football quarterback award to include the candidates’ bowl performances in its balloting. The award is voted on by a panel of local and national media, as well as each of the Mannings.

Barnett and the Dukes return to the field on Tuesday, Oct. 28 when they face Texas State in San Marcos. Kickoff from UFCU Stadium is set for 8 p.m. ET (7 p.m. CT) on WSVA (92.1 FM / 1360 AM).
