BUENA VISTA, Va. (BC Athletics) – Riley Corcoran registered a career-high 25 points to fuel a dominant 71-51 win for the Bridgewater women’s basketball team over Southern Virginia on Tuesday.

Records: (RV) Bridgewater 5-1, Southern Virginia 2-3

How It Happened
• Southern Virginia got on the board first with a layup on its first possession, but Riley Corcoran scored on the other end to even the score. BC went to work on both sides of the ball from there to the tune of a 16-2 run capped off by an Abbie Baker score. Corcoran led the way with six points as the defense held SVU to just one-of-nine from the floor for six minutes and change. The Knights got on the board and were able to outscore the Eagles 6-3 over the final two minutes of the period to make it a 19-10 lead for BC after the first frame.
• Aylin Humpherys drilled a three-pointer to open the second quarter after a steal by Savannah Wilson got things started. The sides traded buckets after that, but SVU started to get things going offensively. The Knights went on a 13-4 run where they were 6-of-13 from the floor. BC was just 1-for-9 during that same time span with Asia Williams’ make as the only one for BC. Each team made a pair of free throws in the final two minutes of the half as the Knights made it a 30-27 BC lead at the half.
• Williams and Jay Garcia got the scoring started in the second half for the Eagles. SVU had a quick reply, but Bridgewater got the momentum rolling as they started the second half on a 15-6 run where they forced seven turnovers by the home team. An Angela Yann bucket on a steal by Corcoran capped off the run and made it 45-33 for the Eagles. SVU drained a three-pointer to stall the run temporarily, but a three-pointer by Garcia and a Corcoran layup stretched the lead to 50-36 with two minutes to play in the quarter. SVU made four free throws down the stretch to slide the lead down to 10, 50-40, at the break.
• The Knights drained a long-range jumper to open the fourth and had a short-lived 5-2 run to cut the lead down to seven points with 7:45 to play. BC slowly stretched the lead thanks to a 9-4 run thanks to another Humpherys three-pointer. The Knights cut the lead to 63-51 with 3:22 to play, but that would be all for the home team. BC held the Knights scoreless over the final 2:42 to lock up a 71-51 victory.

Match Notes
• Corcoran led the way with a career-high 25 points including seven makes at the charity stripe. Garcia tallied a season-best 15 points to go along with 12 rebounds for a double-double. Humpherys and Williams each tallied season-highs in points as well with 10 and five respectively.
• Snyder led the way for the Knights with 15 points. Kimball registered the first double-double given up by the Eagles this season with 14 points and 14 rebounds.
• BC was efficient from the floor again as it shot at a 45.0% clip. Bridgewater had a slight 35-33 edge on the glass, but timely turnovers ended up costing the Knights. BC outscored SVU 41-24 in the second half and did not trail after the opening 28 seconds.
