Bridgewater Women’s Soccer blanks Catholic, 2-0

Bridgewater, Va. (BC Athletics) – Bridgewater College women’s soccer team took a 2-0 victory over Catholic Wednesday afternoon behind goals from Katherine King and Kendall Garza.

How it Happened
• The Eagles struck first in the 16th minute from a corner kick opportunity. The ball found the foot of junior midfielder Katherine King to give the Eagles the first goal of the contest. The goal was assisted by sophomore Cassandra Villafan.
• Bridgewater scored the second goal in the 67th minute of the contest. Sophomore Brianna Curro sent a corner kick into the box. The ball bounced off King, and was deflected off the body of senior Kendall Garza, into the net.
• The Eagles played more aggressively in the second half compared to the first. BC let off three shots in the first half, compared to 11 in the second.
• Freshman keeper Erinn Lockard continued her shutout streak. In 90 minutes of action, the reigning recipient of the ODAC Defensive Player of the Week award recorded seven saves.

Match Notes
• King’s goal was her second of the season. She currently leads the team in goals (2) and points (5) this season, and is tied with three other players for first in assists.
• Garza’s goal was her first of the season, and the tenth of her career.
• Bridgewater’s 3-0 start to the season is the program’s best start to a season since 2020.
• With seven saves, Lockard’s season saves count increases to 13, the most in the ODAC.

What’s Next?
• BC travels to Carlisle, Pa. To face Dickinson on Saturday, Sept. 6. at 2 p.m.
