STAUNTON, Va. (BC Athletics) – Bridgewater College women’s volleyball took down Mary Baldwin in the season opener Tuesday night on the road in straight sets.

How It Happened
• The Eagles had their way from the start. In the opening set, BC launched an explosive four-point rally as Virginia Collins and Maecy Ann Frizzelle paired up to strike down daunting blows. Soon after, the Eagles bulldozed to a dominant 14-6 advantage. Reagan Stoop and Agnes Alford also joined the attacking core to piece together a 20-9 lead. Olivia Mason capped the first set with a knockdown for the 25-12 set score.
• Although the Fighting Squirrels started with a 3-0 opening lead in the second set, the Eagles made more noise barreling to an eight-point rally behind four-straight service aces by Stoop. More explosive offense came from the BC side with attacks from Alford, Frizzelle, and Collins for a 13-4 lead. MBU could not find the answer late in the set as the Eagles rolled to a strong 25-14 second set score.
• In the third set, BC struck again landing a powerful seven-point scoring rally to break open the third and final set. There was still no answer found from MBU. Then, the Eagles steamrolled to a 13-point scoring run to close the match as Molly Gardner helped end the contest with a spicy service ace.
Match Notes
• Agnes Alford and Maecy Ann Frizzelle combined for 26 kills and averaged a .771 hitting percentage between the two of them.
• First year Frizzelle showed out with a double-double, piling on 14 kills and 10 digs to her stat total. The outside hitter also strung together five service aces.
• Another first year, Nora Van Horn, led the match with 15 assists.
• The Eagles collected 16 total service aces.

The Eagles remain on the road this weekend at Gettysburg as they take on Messiah, Lycoming, Olivet and Gettysburg. There are two matches on Friday starting after another beginning at 3 p.m., with another two matches on Saturday beginning at 1:30 p.m.
