BRIDGEWATER, Va. (BC Athletics) – The Bridgewater College women’s basketball team used an 18-point fourth quarter to take down Randolph 54-42 on Wednesday night.

How It Happened
• Randolph got on the board first with five-straight points. BC got on the board with a Jaiden Polston bucket just over two minutes into the contest, and a pair of free throws by Riley Corcoran pulled the Eagles back to within a point. The WildCats replied, but BC has an answer by Asia Williams as the teams traded scores. RWC stretched the lead to 9-6 with 4:47 to go in the period, but a Corcoran basket on the other end sparked a 12-0 BC run to swing the momentum. Aylin Humpherys led the charge with six points during the surge, and Autumn Gentry capped it off with a layup to make it 18-9 with under a minute to go in the opening stanza. The WildCats sank a free throw to make it 18-10 heading to the second quarter.
• Corocan drilled a three-pointer on a dish from Gentry to open the second quarter, and the Eagles stretched the lead to double figures. That would be BC’s last field goal for quite a while. Randolph went on an 8-3 run over six minutes to cut the lead to as few as three points. A Gentry three-pointer ended the drought and stretched the gap back to nine points at 27-18. Randolph outscored Bridgewater 5-1 over the final 60 seconds of the half to make it 28-23 for the Eagles at the break.
• The opening five minutes of the second half were all Randolph. The WildCats put together a 7-2 run as BC was held without a make from the floor until after the media timeout. The scoring run tied the game at 30-30 before the already mentioned score by Savannah Wilson gave the Eagles the lead back. Another score from Gentry, a bucket by Wilson and solid defense led to a 6-0 BC run to push the advantage back out to two scores at 36-30 with two minutes to go in the period. Randolph drilled a three-pointer as time expired in the quarter to make it 36-33 with 10 minutes to play.
• Randolph pulled even with its first score of the fourth stanza as an old-school three-point play by Edmond tied the game at 36-36. BC had a reply from Garcia, but the WildCats were right there with a score on the other end to level the score again. Corcoran gave Bridgewater the lead back, and the Eagles put the pedal to the floor from there. Humpherys followed with a bucket and a pair of makes at the charity stripe by Corcoran, making it 44-38 with 5:57 to play. Randolph got a bucket on its next trip, but BC kept rolling as Corcoran made another pair at the stripe. Bridgewater ended up on a 16-2 tear after all was said and done, as an Asia Williams jumper made it 54-40 with under 10 seconds to go. Williams also fueled the run as she assisted on the final two BC scores before her own. Randolph scored with two seconds to go, but the damage was done.
Match Notes,
• Corcoran led BC with 17 points, highlighted by eight makes at the free-throw line. Garcia, Humpherys and Gentry all registered eight points to help the offensive attack as well. Polston grabbed 13 rebounds, while Garcia added 10 in what became a huge night on the glass for the Eagles. Polston, Williams and Corcoran all tossed in three assists each to help the cause.
• Pabon led the charge for Randolph with nine points. four different players registered multiple steals for the WildCats.
• The difference in the contest was on the glass and at the charity stripe. BC held a massive 45-24 edge in rebounds despite the WildCats zone defense. The Eagles also used the zone to their advantage as the fouls committed by the WildCats inside led to BC going to the charity stripe 22 times. BC was 15-of-22 at the line, while Randolph was just 3-of-10.
