Augusta County authorities are cautioning residents about a scam that has been circulating recently.

Sheriff Donald Smith reports that his office has taken several reports about someone calling them saying they are Deputy Gary Taylor, or Corporal Derek Almarode with the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office.

The caller is telling the citizen that they missed a court appearance, and that they need to pay money through apple pay, or through money pack cards. The caller has even mentioned Judges’ names.

Smith reminds folks that the sheriff’s office will never call anyone and demand money to be paid- PERIOD.

If anyone receives a phone call such as this, hang the phone up and block the number.
