VERONA, Va. — Augusta County Sheriff Donald Smith is giving residents a heads-up that they may hear gunfire over the next couple of months.

In a notice on social media, Smith reminded folks that muzzleloader deer season runs from tomorrow through January 6th for hunters here in the Valley.

The sheriff recited some common hunting safety tips, like wearing blaze orange gear, knowing the range and capabilities of your weapon, and never firing blindly at sound or movement without confirming your target.

The Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources has a full guide related to hunting posted on its website. More information can be found here.
