The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality issued a drought warning advisory for the Shenandoah Drought Evaluation Region, that included the City of Staunton.

At the time, the water level in Staunton Dam, one of the City’s drinking sources, was at an acceptable measure.

However, the continued drought conditions in the area have impacted the water level at the dam and until the water levels return to normal, city officials are asking that all citizens voluntarily reduce their water use.

City departments began water conservation measures earlier this week. For example, fire hydrant testing and flushing have been suspended and park maintenance is watering all flower beds and plantings using water from Lake Tams.
