A federal appeals court temporarily halted new construction on the Mountain Valley Pipeline yesterday as it reviews a request by environmental groups to challenge the pipeline’s approval in national forest land.

The fight is reportedly over a three-mile stretch through Jefferson National Forest, representing less than one percent of the pipeline’s total length.

A bill recently passed in Congress to raise the federal debt ceiling supposedly issued the permits required to allow the pipeline to finish construction.

West Virginia U-S Senator Joe Manchin called the setback “unlawful,” writing in a tweet yesterday that every American should be alarmed “when a court ignores the law.”
